The park is 14 miles around and according to Roy it is believed that the park was referred to in the Domesday book and records of a salary being paid to a park keeper in 1129. Originally Virginia Water was a small stream, known as the Windles and later as the Virginy River. The park is protected by provisions in the Crown Estate Act, 1961. 48 pages
